Using AI tools in video production, Adobe's new goodies, and another video
Plus, Apple on why AI can't reason, Rick Rolling, more National Archives, and migrating to Bluesky
I’m David Gewirtz. Welcome to this week’s Advanced Geekery newsletter. It’s been an exciting week. Let’s dive in.
This week’s video (yep, another one)
It’s time for yet another Dave video. Last week, we looked at Unboxing the future of 3D printing: Anycubic Kobra 3 Combo. This time, I put the thing together.
My articles
Let’s kick it off with a quick recap of the articles I published in the last week on ZDNET.
Adobe releases more AI magic for Creative Cloud users at Max 2024: Adobe's new AI features for Photoshop and Premiere help you remove distractions, expand videos, and seamlessly generate new footage. Here's how.
Think AI can solve all your business problems? Apple's new study shows otherwise: Apple just exposed major cracks in AI's capabilities. See why LLMs still can't handle complex reasoning and what it means for your decision-making processes.
I'm a long-time YouTube video producer - these 3 AI tools help me do it better and faster: Want to improve your YouTube videos without spending a fortune? Must-watch YouTube
Moving on, let’s queue up some interesting YouTube videos for your entertainment and edification.
Ever wonder how instant coffee is made? I know it’s a disturbing concept, but the production process (and market information) is pretty fascinating.
This is the first of a two-part Rick Roll. The other is in the Interesting Reads section below. This time, it’s a fugue. You’re welcome.
Interesting reads
And now, some good stuff from around the Internet, well worth reading.
Okay, so we’re still far enough from the election that I think this is safe to share. It’s the only politics I plan on running this season, and it’s from the Obama White House.
Apparently, someone thought the White House correspondence briefing was too boring, and said so on Twitter. Remember Twitter before X? Good times. Good times.
In any case, the White House responded with a link to Never Gonna Give You Up. See kids? Politics used to be fun.Have you ever wondered if there’s a difference between iced Nespresso pods vs the regular kind? Here’s the answer.
Jason Perlow has a helpful ZDNET piece about moving followers from Twitter to Bluesky.
Send in your projects
I’d like to regularly spotlight a reader project or two here. Your project doesn’t have to be a big Kickstarter launch. If you’ve built something cool, it has some pretty pictures, and you’re proud of it, I might be able to share it here.
If you have a photogenic reader project, send an email to me at david@zatz.com with the subject “READER PROJECT,” a few pictures, and a short one-paragraph description. If you have a social media link or a link to the project, include that, too.
Both my EPs are now streaming
Available on all your favorite streaming services.
More clicky
I’ve got a lot happening all over the web. Here are links to my various stuff:
House of the Head: home for my published music
ZATZ Labs: where I host my published software projects
Feel free to dig around, visit, and say hey!
Leave some comments
Substack supports comments, so feel free to leave some. I promise to read them. Just, please, let’s keep our personal politics out of any discussion.
That should do it for this week. This newsletter is really starting to pick up subscribers. Please help it out by sharing links on all your socials.
Have a great week!
