AI content detectors, GitHub goes agent HQ, and Amazon's new massive data center
Plus, I bought mini-calipers, upgrade your incompatible PC to Windows 11, you might not be a psychopath, and an adorable dog thief.
I’m David Gewirtz. Welcome to this week’s Advanced Geekery newsletter. It’s been an exciting week. Let’s dive in.
Advanced Geekery is published weekly on Substack and LinkedIn. Same content. Choose your favorite delivery method. Back Issues.
My articles
Here’s a quick recap of the articles I published in the last week on ZDNET.
GitHub’s new Agent HQ gives devs a command center for all their AI tools - why this is a huge deal: GitHub just brought Codex, Claude, and Jules together in one agentic development platform. Here’s how it works and why it matters.
I’ve been testing AI content detectors for years - these are your best options in 2025: AI content is everywhere now, but these detectors can help (including one that may surprise you).
I have a bunch of small business tips articles coming next week, so stay tuned to ZDNET to read them.
Must-watch YouTube
Moving on, let’s queue up some interesting YouTube videos for your entertainment and edification.
This guy manufacturers hardware kits at home (including PC board pick-and-place). I never did this with hardware, but I can sure identify. Back in the day, 18-wheelers regularly pulled into my cul-de-sac delivering production supplies. The neighbors were so very much not amused.
Here’s a look at the massive data center Amazon is building for Anthropic.
Do you like LEGO? These are apparently the 20 most popular LEGO sets. Not what I would have guessed, but there you go.
Tool of the week
This little thing just arrived on my doorstep today. It’s a set of calipers… okay, let’s stop for a second. We’re looking at a single device with a plural name. So saying “it is” and “calipers” in the same sentence works. English is a funky language. But I digress…
These are (see what I did there?) a two inch set (wow, subject-verb agreement can be disagreeable sometimes). Where was I? Okay, this thing is 4-inches long and takes measurements of up to only 2-inches. So why did I buy it?
It’s tiny enough to fit in the little drawer next to my couch, so I can measure things while my dog is on my lap. What? Doesn’t everyone have to measure objects for 3D design while sitting on a couch with a small dog sleeping on their lap?
There are three or four of you out there reading this that so understand, and a whole bunch of you wondering what the fuss is about. Remember, this is Advanced Geekery, not Advanced Normalcy. I don’t even know what that would be. Do you? Comment below.

Interesting reads
And now, some good stuff from around the Internet, well worth checking out.
My coffee preference says there’s a chance I might not be a psychopath, according to science.
This pooch likes to steal stuff.
ZDNET’s Kyle Kucharski upgraded his Windows 10 PC to Windows 11, despite Microsoft claiming he had an incompatible machine. Kyle takes you through a step-by-step.
Send in your projects
I’d like to regularly spotlight a reader project or two here. Your project doesn’t have to be a big Kickstarter launch. If you’ve built something cool, it has some pretty pictures, and you’re proud of it, I might be able to share it here.
If you have a photogenic reader project, send an email to me at david@zatz.com with the subject “READER PROJECT,” a few pictures, and a short one-paragraph description. If you have a social media link or a link to the project, include that, too.
Both my EPs are now streaming
Available on all your favorite streaming services.
More clicky
I’ve got a lot happening all over the web. Here are links to my various stuff:
House of the Head: home for my published music
ZATZ Labs: where I host my published software projects
Feel free to dig around, visit, and say hey!
Leave some comments
Substack supports comments, so feel free to leave some. I promise to read them. Just, please, let’s keep our personal politics out of any discussion.
That should do it for this week. This newsletter is really starting to pick up subscribers. Please help it out by sharing links on all your socials.
Have a great week!
